Woodworking Careers

Will attending 1 year carpenter trade school give me a higher chance of becoming a carpenter union apprentice?
Should I go to a 1 year trade school first than apply or should I go apply with barely any knowledge of carpentry? I’m 22 years old and interested in changing to this career field. I love to do things with my hand, but barely have any experience even prior to graduating high school. I took a technology class in high school that have some Woodworking involve and mechanical drawing 1 and 2.
Definitely go to trade school, starting out as a common laborer is not the way to start a new carrier. In trade school you’ll be presented with all the appropriate tools, procedures and knowledge base needed to start out. You’ll not be a top notch carpenter when you get out but you’ll have at least a 5 year jump on anyone starting out as a common laborer. Plus you’ll be able to work in various areas and may discover a specialty area that you would prefer. After you graduate there will be plenty of job offers from builders wanting, needing someone with your training. Trade school is a definite!
